Confirmation
Confirmation is a ceremony in which those "baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop." (Book of Common Prayer, p. 412). Confirmation at St. Paul's is offered to those who are entering the 9th grade or above, or to adults who wish to be confirmed. The preparation is a year-long process consisting of classes (normally twice per month), attendance and participation in the worship services and other involvements in the life of the church along with exploration of one's faith and commitment to the Christian life. While parents may encourage participation in the preparation process, the final decision about whether to receive confirmation or not rests with the individual. While the hope is to offer confirmation preparation each year, depending upon interest it may not be held some years, but will be held the year following.
Our confirmation services take place in our Deanery (a subset of churches in our Diocese). This means that the confirmands will be joining others from other churches and also that the service itself will take place in a church within the deanery and not, necessarily, at St. Paul's. In some years, whenever possible, such deanery confirmation services will take place at St. Paul's.
Those interested in confirmation should contact the Rector.
