Introduction
Since it’s founding 250
years ago, St. Paul’s Church has been the home of a great musical
tradition for both its parishioners and the Dedham community. The Men
and Boys Choirs and the Women and Girls Choirs of the early nineteenth
century have given rise to today's Chancel Choir and Festival Choir for
men and women as well as the Cherub and Youth
Choirs. St. Paul’s has hosted many musical organizations over the years
including the Dedham Choral Society and the music program at Noble and Greenough School.
St. Paul’s is
also proud to sponsor the Commonwealth Brass Quintet. The Commonwealth
Brass Quintet is "in-residence” at St. Paul’s, providing music for
Easter, Christmas, and other church services.

On Sunday, May 20, 2007 our
Choir under the direction of David Tierney, our minister of Music, and
with a guest orchestra of talented musicians performed Bach's Cantata

David's introductory remarks along with the first three movements of
this magnificent Cantata:
Choirs
The Chancel Choir provides the vast majority of
music for services at St. Paul’s. This mixed voice choir of sixteen to
twenty-four voices rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
and sings at the 10:00 a.m. service every Sunday from September to June.
Repertoire ranges from Tallis and Byrd to Haydn and Mozart to Matthias
and Tavener. Membership is open to experienced singers of high school
age and older. Participation is by audition or invitation.
The Festival Choir is the Chancel Choir augmented
by ten to twenty singers and sings at the musical services scheduled
throughout the church year. Rehearsals are scheduled for specific
Thursday evenings throughout the year. Participation is open to all.
The Junior Choir
is for girls in grades 3 and above. The Junior Choir provides music at
various services throughout the year (please call for a schedule). The
Junior Choir rehearses on Sundays following the 10:00 a.m. service
(approximately 11:15 a.m.-12:00 noon). Membership is open to any girl,
including non-parishioners.
The Cherub Choir
is for boys and girls in grade K-2. The Cherub Choir provides music at
five or six church services throughout the year (please call for a
schedule). On some occasions the Cherub and Junior Choirs join forces
for special events. The Cherub Choir rehearses on Thursdays from
4:15-5:00 p.m. Membership is open to any girl in grades K-2, including
non-parishioners.
